Annual Nudge

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.

Week #19 - LIFE'S simple pleasures- Honoring Motherhood

Although, just like many other holidays, some people consider Mother's Day a Hallmark Holiday.... created for the commercial-ism.  Anna Jarvis is noted for founding the FIRST mother's day back in 1908, a way to honor all mothers.  It is marked on the calendar as the 2nd Sunday in May. Do you need an annual nudge to remind you how special your mother is or the great memories of her love that you remember?

However, Miss Jarvis was not too happy how celebrations and honoring our Moms changed in the early 1920's.  Here's a quote:  A printed card means nothing except that you are too lazy to write to the woman who has done more for you than anyone in the world. And candy! You take a box to Mother—and then eat most of it yourself. A pretty sentiment.
—Anna Jarvis

Free enterprise is always thriving around this time of year.... getting in on the bandwagon besides Hallmark is AT&T (years ago it was the most popular day for long distance calling) and FTD, flowers are the most popular gift to give mom!

So, should we honor motherhood only one day of the year?  Or do you honor her in no particular way, or on any one particular day, she is always in your heart, wherever you go?

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. ~Rajneesh

Dear Peggy. The mother is sacred to a man. When the father dies it's a sorrow and grief. When the Mother dies a man becomes an orphan.
