From The Prairie

Hubby and I went Geo caching ( an outdoor sporting activity using a GPS navigational system to help you find global positions and locate hide and seek a 'cache' or a prize/log) over the weekend. We found 2! We signed up for the 15 hide and seeks 'caches' that takes us across the county we live in and is put on by the conservatory district.

As you can see, we live amongst a lot of Prairie Land.... prairies are made up of tall grasses, flowering plants called forbs and sedges (grass like plants). These plants grow well in the sandy soil and toward the end of summer can be 4-6 feet tall. I think if I remember correctly, often when new sub-divisions were built or the suburbs moved further west of downtown Chicago, contractors could build the homes as long as they left certain lands untouched for local parks and the county conservatory district.

One of the parks we went to has the beginning of a 64 mile river... it was just a mere trickle. At each 'cache' we have to answer a question and they give a little history of the park we are walking in.

And now today, by stopping at my post, you know a little bit more about prairie lands. The mosquitoes loved us... but it sure was nice to walk about a mile to each 'find' and try to enjoy the scenery of going back to nature!

Forgot to mention a while back.... Bubba won the lottery. For his 18th Birthday, Sissy bought him some Illinois Scratch Off Lottery Tickets.... on one of the tickets he won, $100!!!! And now that he is 18, he was legal to retrieve his own winnings.... ahhh, coming of age!
